It's Hard to be the Gardener by Tom Chapman
Have you ever seen a garden with yellow flowers from a tree
Or roses from a rose bed with different colors mostly red?
Or multicolor Hibiscus roses the favorite ones for me
A bird bath and more flowers where birds are often fed?
I once made a garden and it was big enough for me
Yet it was pretty lonely as I'm single long you see,
At the center of my garden was a cross that set me free
A gift from a friend and it made my heart feel glee.
It was the focus of my garden and my life eternally
Yet the animals around it don't realize who is He,
It's hard to be the gardener and harder still to be paternal
My experience has taught me that Jesus is the key.
What child can lay aside their true character within
Like flowers in my garden yet surrounded by their sin,
They don't even get my garden a place they've seldom been
Others are more important than their closet kin.
Which is why I had a garden to brighten up my day
To remind me all the time that God loves gardens too,
To remind me of His beauty and how He opened up the way
I'm sure the flowers are perfect there and everyone is true.
